FerryCon 2024 at the Library

FerryCon is the library’s all day, yearly Comic Con-style flagship event for all ages that takes place one Saturday every fall (formerly spring). Since 2019, FerryCon has brought over 300 participants to the library for fun-filled events including artists alley, classes, panels, and contests that revolved around comic books, graphic novels, super heroes, and more!

Picture Book will have books from the Bad Kitty series by Nick Bruel , a selection of graphic novels, and other fun books for sale.

Headlining Events
We’re so excited about our line-up for you this year! The following events will be in the Community Room unless otherwise noted.

  • 11am: Storytime with Spiderman (Ages 2-6)

    1. 12pm:  Design in Animation: What It Is and How It’s Done with Gabriel Pinto (All Ages, best for Teens and Adults)

    2. 1pm: Story Writing Skills with Bad Kitty (and Nick Bruel) (Families)

    3. 2pm: Padawan Training with Empire Saber Guild  (Ages 5-12)

    4. 3pm: How to Draw Anime with Paige Monte (ages 10-18)

    5. 4pm: Splatter Talk: Horror Writing with Dobbs Ferry’s Luis Paredes and Archie Comics’ Jamie L. Rotante (Teens and Adults)

    6. 4pm: Cosplay Contest with judge Harley Nox (library plaza)

Celebrating New Books!

Picture Book is thrilled to welcome beloved locals Jenny Rosenstrach and Jodi Levine, as well as co-author Margaret McCartney to celebrate their new books!

The Weekday Vegetarians Get Simple: Strategies and So-Good Recipes to Suit Every Craving and Mood by Jenny Rosenstrach shares 100 new recipes that make eating meat-free even easier, even tastier.

Mousetown: 30+ Kids Crafts Made from Recycled and Everyday Materials by Jodi Levine and Margaret McCartney is a beautiful and unique craft book that also tells the story of Mouse and his adventures.

You can pre-order your books when you purchase tickets, on Picture Books website, Bookshop.org, or on site at the event, but please do not bring books purchased elsewhere to this bookstore event.

On Saturday, June 22nd at 2 pm Eric Rosswood, author of the children’s book “Strong” is coming to the library to present his newest book for teens: “Queer Cheer” and lead a discussion on how to embrace your various identities and add queer joy and positivity to all aspects of your life! The author will also be signing books, which will be available to purchase from Picture Book! Open to teens and adults.

Join us at Picture Book inside HudCo to meet the author Lyn Slater of How to Be Old: Lessons in Living Boldly from the Accidental Icon, a personal memoir in which Lyn Slater, known on Instagram as "Accidental Icon," brings her characteristic style, optimism, forward-thinking, and rules-are-meant-to-be-broken attitude to the question of how to live boldly at any age

Dobbs Ferry PTSA Diversity Committee Presents Windows of Our World: a celebration of cultures and the different lenses through which we see the world. Authors Frances Cha and Deborah Johnson and Illustrators Kristin Sorra reading from their books and leading activities.

10% of Picture Book’s sales will be donated to the PTSA and earmarked for new additions to classroom libraries.

Lynn Schmeidler will present her new book, “Half-Lives” the 2023 Rising Writer Prize winner, selected by Matt Bell.

Reception at 7:00 p.m.

The reading by Lynn Schmeidler will start at 7:30 and will be followed by an interview with Hastings resident Barbara Feinberg, creator and director of Story Shop.

Author Event: Living Upriver with Barbara De Vries

BOOK SIGNING and Q&A

Picture Book and The Floral Society are delighted to host author Barbara de Vries to celebrate her new book Living Upriver: Artful Homes, Idyllic Lives.
With an introduction by Emma Austen Tuccillo of And North, the book documents twelve homes belonging to the new pioneers: creative individuals who embrace a slower lifestyle combining nostalgic remote living with modern connectivity.

Picture Book founder Sara Davidson will host a brief Q& A with the author followed by a book signing and opportunity to shop The Floral Society’s intentional goods. Tickets include a copy of the book.
